After several failed school budget referendums in the early 1990’s, many Edgemont families desired a vehicle that could create and finance new and alternative school programs and initiatives. With the encouragement of the Edgemont Board of Education, the Edgemont School Foundation was formed in 1993 by a diverse group of concerned parents, school administrators, and alumni. ESF is organized exclusively for charitable, education, scientific, literacy, and cultural purposes for the benefit, and to enhance the excellence of the Edgemont Union Free School District.
Since its inception, ESF has raised and granted over $2.2 Million to the Edgemont School District for programs that have improved the curriculum, modernized facilities, and enhanced the educational experience of all Edgemont students. The ESF works hand-in-hand with the principals and administrators in Edgemont to award grants to motivated and innovative teachers. ESF aims to impact as many students as possible in a given grant and seeks requests that have longevity from year to year.
The ESF board meets monthly to review grant proposals, monitor existing programs, create new and exciting fundraising opportunities, and manage its endowment. The Edgemont School Foundation is a fully qualified IRS 501(c)(3) entity chartered in New York State as a Not-for-Profit charity.
